Medical Acupuncture or dry needling, as it is sometimes referred to, is a therpeutic modality involving the insertion of fine sterile needles into muscles and fascia. It is a technique used to relieve muscular spasms, trigger points and myofascial pain. This technique is best used as an addition to the remedial massage session where the full assessment has highlighted a need for trigger point release or reduction in myofascial pain, prior to massage.
As this technique involves the use of needles it will not be for everyone. However, I am sure those that have experienced this technique will agree the benefits and relief that Medical Acupuncture can provide, along with the use of other manual therapy, will outweigh fears and reservations.
